“A half-naked man screams ‘Devil told me to kill’ as he crashes a car into a jail and throws snakes”

A partially clothed man was apprehended after he rammed his car into a jail, hurled snakes, and shouted, “the devil told me to kill.”

Joseph Leedy, reportedly wearing only a woman’s blouse, crashed into the Martin County Jail on the evening of June 3. Upon crashing the Toyota through the entrance, Leedy emerged from the vehicle wearing a female blouse and no pants, as reported by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The 40-year-old proceeded to pour motor oil on the floor, expressing a desire to ignite it. Law enforcement officers stated that he continued to make homicidal threats towards them and expressed intentions to harm everyone present while tossing rubber snakes on the floor and engaging in altercations with police and fire rescue crews.

Although Leedy caused significant damage, he was unable to breach the steel doors of the Florida jail. Fortunately, no one was in the lobby when the crash occurred, according to investigators.

Leedy, described as homeless by deputies, was subdued and taken to a nearby hospital. However, he refused to cooperate with the hospital staff upon arrival. Subsequently, he was returned to the jail, where he was booked and charged with four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and criminal mischief exceeding $1,000.

In a police report, Officer Brycen Vanatwerp stated, “Mr. Leedy uttered statements such as ‘the devil made me do it,’ ‘why didn’t you shoot me,’ and ‘f**k me in the a**; I came here to kill the police.'”

Chief Deputy John Budensiek mentioned that Leedy also expressed his disdain for former President Donald Trump.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that charges had been filed against the defendant, with a court date yet to be determined.
