Tamara Banks, 41, received a sentence of up to 13 and a half years in prison this week following her admission of guilt to involuntary manslaughter in the case of her daughter, Karmity Hoeb, who passed away in January 2022.
Karmity tragically passed away in the hospital due to diabetes-related complications, with a prosecutor noting the severe condition of her teeth before her death.
The little girl’s father, Christopher Hoeb, 53, also admitted to involuntary manslaughter and is awaiting sentencing on June 11.
Banks confessed in March after facing multiple charges, including murder and child endangerment, along with Karmity’s father.
Karmity lost her life at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center after displaying symptoms of type-1 diabetes.
The girl endured significant neglect and was deprived of proper medical attention and nutrition despite her critical medical condition.
Prosecutors revealed that Karmity’s parents neglected to seek help when she had a severe medical issue leading up to her passing.
Tragically, Karmity’s death was attributed to diabetic ketoacidosis, which had spread to her brain, a situation that could have been prevented with proper care for her untreated diabetes.
