Mother who killed her 3 daughters is sentenced to 18 years in jail

A mother has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the deaths of her three daughters, whom she smothered in their sleep.

According to the NZ Herald, Justice Cameron Mander explained to the court that imposing a life sentence with a parole eligibility of 17 years or longer would be excessively unfair. Instead, he handed down three concurrent determinate sentences of 18 years each, opting not to specify a minimum imprisonment term.

Additionally, Judge Mander ordered that Dickason undergo compulsory treatment at a mental health facility until she is deemed mentally stable for transfer to prison. After serving six years of her sentence, Dickason will become eligible for parole.

Through her legal representation, the mother of three acknowledged responsibility for the deaths and expressed regret for the anguish inflicted upon her husband, Graham.
