Reportedly, Saudi club Al-Nassr is targeting Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, aiming to secure him with a contract that would elevate him to the status of the highest-paid defender globally.
The 32-year-old Dutch center-back, who has made a significant mark in Premier League history since his arrival at Liverpool from Southampton in 2018, has a contract worth £220,000 per week expiring next summer. Earlier this year, he confessed uncertainty about his future. According to Spanish outlet Marca, Al-Nassr has initiated discussions for a potential transfer this summer, with their general director meeting Van Dijk’s representatives recently to present an offer that would surpass current standards for defender salaries.
Both Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo are keen on strengthening their squad, particularly after Al-Nassr finished as runners-up in the Saudi Pro League for the second consecutive season. Should Van Dijk opt for the move to Saudi Arabia, he would likely partner with Aymeric Laporte in defense.
However, Van Dijk’s future remains uncertain as he is yet to receive a new contract offer, as discussed after Liverpool’s final game of the season.
