Argentina experiences its first week without food inflation in 30 years, occurring six months after the inauguration of the new President

Argentina, historically plagued by high inflation, has achieved a milestone. For the first time in thirty years, there has been a week without price increases in food and beverages, according to the private consulting firm Econométrica. This notable occurrence took place six months after the inauguration of President Javier Milei.

Ramiro Castiñeira, director of Econométrica, highlighted this development on social media, sharing graphs depicting the downward trend of food inflation in recent months, culminating in a 0% increase.

An analysis of 8,000 online supermarket prices indicated a projected monthly rise of 3% in food prices. However, overall inflation, encompassing non-food items, is anticipated to be higher in June compared to May, primarily due to increased tariffs, as reported by Infobae.

President Milei also took to social media to announce the news. Since assuming office in December, the libertarian leader has made combatting inflation a top priority. He inherited an economy with an annual inflation rate of 142%, declining economic activity, and record debt levels.

This recent achievement marks a significant step forward in Milei’s ongoing efforts to stabilize Argentina’s economy.
