US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to conduct strikes inside Russian territory using American munitions, sparking strong condemnation from Russia.
However, Biden has placed restrictions on the use of these weapons, allowing Ukraine to target only locations near Kharkiv, a city in the northeastern part of the country close to the Russian border, following significant advances by Russian forces in the area.
“One of the officials stated, ‘The president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine can utilize US-supplied weapons for counterfire purposes in Kharkiv, enabling Ukraine to retaliate against Russian forces attacking or preparing to attack them.'”
