King Felipe of Spain was deeply affected by allegations of his wife Queen Letizia’s infidelity, described as feeling “crushed and destroyed,” as revealed in a new book by journalist Jaime Peñafiel, who has extensively covered the Spanish royal family for decades.

In his most recent release, “Letizia’s Silences,” unveiled in Spain on Wednesday, May 29, Peñafiel, aged 91, asserted that the Spanish king was cognizant of Letizia’s infidelity in real-time, citing the duty of her bodyguards to monitor her movements.

The royal author contends that during a trip to New York in 2011, bodyguards accompanied the queen, who was allegedly accompanied by her rumored “paramour,” Jaime del Burgo.

Reportedly, Letizia, aged 51, was romantically involved with del Burgo before meeting King Felipe in 2002.

Peñafiel wrote in his book, as reported by Daily Mail, “On that day [in New York], she was accompanied by her loyal escorts, who undoubtedly would submit a report to the Ministry of the Interior or the Palace of Zarzuela.”

He further asserted that Felipe, aged 56, was left “crushed and devastated” by Letizia’s purported “betrayal,” feeling “plunged into hell” and eager to “escape.”
