Kylian Mbappe, the forward for Real Madrid and the French national team, never expected to play for PSG this season

Kylian Mbappe was convinced he wouldn’t feature for PSG this season due to the direct and forceful communication he received from the club’s hierarchy. However, despite departing for Real Madrid this week after refusing to extend his contract, Mbappe clarified he never felt unhappy during his time at the French club.

The 25-year-old completed a free transfer to European champions Real Madrid on Monday after declining to renew his contract with PSG. Initially sidelined from the first team during pre-season for not committing to a new deal, Mbappe was reinstated in mid-August and played throughout the season. However, towards the end of the campaign, he was substituted in key matches as part of a strategy for PSG to adjust to playing without him, as per the directives of coach Luis Enrique.

Reflecting on the season’s tumultuous start during a press conference on Tuesday, Mbappe revealed, “I was spoken to directly, without intermediaries, in a very straightforward manner. The conversation was so intense that I was convinced I wouldn’t be part of the team.” He credited coach Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Ocampos for supporting him and enabling his return to the pitch, emphasizing his gratitude for their role in his inclusion.

Mbappe expressed pride in his performance throughout the season despite facing adversity, considering it one of the best of his career. Although he admitted that certain individuals made his time at the Parc des Princes challenging, he reiterated that overall, he did not experience unhappiness at PSG.
