Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been authorized to pursue a £65 million transfer for a Euro 2024 standout

Michael Owen believes Marc Guehi would be an ideal summer signing for either Liverpool or Manchester United following his impressive Euro 2024 campaign.

Guehi, 24, initially expected to serve as a squad option for England, stepped into a prominent role after Harry Maguire’s injury withdrawal, emerging as a standout performer during England’s journey to the final.

Crystal Palace anticipates interest in the Chelsea academy product, who joined them in 2021 and has two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool is reportedly seeking a central defender this summer, and Owen views Guehi as a smart addition for either Liverpool or United, both of whom are also in the market for defensive reinforcements.

“Marc Guehi is clearly a very talented player. I doubt Crystal Palace would want to lose another player,” Owen remarked to Prime Casino after England’s loss to Spain.

“He has demonstrated in this tournament that he is very capable. Left-sided centre-backs are highly sought after these days, and he has shown he can perform at a high level. I am confident he could play for a club like Liverpool or Manchester United.”

According to a report in The Telegraph last month, Palace values Guehi at approximately £65 million, placing him in a similar valuation bracket as Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been the subject of Manchester United’s bids.

Since taking over from Jurgen Klopp earlier this summer, new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has yet to enter the transfer market but is expected to strengthen the squad before the new Premier League season kicks off.

Liverpool has also been linked with Guehi’s England teammate, Anthony Gordon, recently, following interest from Newcastle in a potential deal last month.
