Manchester City has initiated legal proceedings against the English Premier League in a surprising move following the filing of 115 charges related to Financial Fair Play

Manchester City’s unprecedented legal action against the Premier League has sparked a significant rift among clubs.

According to The Times, this dispute, involving two of England’s largest clubs, will be resolved after a two-week private arbitration starting on Monday. The outcome could reshape the Premier League and potentially influence City’s hearing in November regarding the 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations.

If found guilty, the champions face severe penalties, including heavy fines, points deductions, or even relegation. City aims to challenge the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which they argue are unlawful, in next week’s hearing.

Implemented following the completion of the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United in December 2021, regulations were established to prevent clubs from artificially inflating commercial agreements with businesses associated with their owners, ensuring the continued competitiveness of the Premier League.
