Nine individuals were apprehended by police following reports that the Islamic State had instructed terrorists to target Real Madrid footballers with gunfire and attempt to attack their stadium using explosives

Nine individuals have been apprehended following reports that Islamic State terrorists were instructed to target Real Madrid players, as revealed after the Spanish Civil Guard dismantled a key propaganda hub linked to the organization.

According to El Confidencial, a major source of Islamic State propaganda known as the I’lam Foundation was dismantled by the Spanish Civil Guard Information Service. The operation reportedly uncovered directives aimed at Real Madrid, the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, and the club’s supporters.

One circulated post from the now-dismantled network included the message: “My dear brother. Wait near the players’ arrival point. Target them and their supporters.”

Another post specifically targeted the Santiago Bernabeu, stating: “My dear brother in Al-Andalus. A highly valuable target awaits you. Penetrate the crowds, distract security with improvised explosives and decoy devices, and approach your main target with determination.”

The Civil Guard operation was conducted in collaboration with Europol, the FBI, and authorities from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Estonia, Romania, and Iceland. It resulted in nine arrests in Spain, according to El Confidencial, spanning Girona, Cadiz, Almeria, and Tenerife, with two individuals placed in pre-trial detention.

Sky Italy reported that investigations began months ago and involved the seizure of computers and propaganda materials. The arrested individuals face charges of terrorism and criminal conspiracy.
