Police have detained nine individuals following reports that Islamic State instructed terrorists to shoot Real Madrid footballers and target their stadium with explosives

Nine individuals have been apprehended following reports that Islamic State terrorists were instructed to target Real Madrid players, according to information from Spain after the Civil Guard dismantled a major propaganda hub associated with the organization.

According to El Confidencial, the self-styled I’lam Foundation, a significant propaganda source linked to Islamic State, was dismantled by the Spanish Civil Guard Information Service. The operation reportedly uncovered directives aimed at Real Madrid, the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, and the team’s supporters.

One of the posts circulated on the now-dismantled network included a message: “My dear brother. Wait near the players’ arrival point. Take aim at them and their supporters.”

Another directive reportedly targeted the Santiago Bernabeu directly: “My dear brother in Al-Andalus. A highly valuable target awaits you. Infiltrate the crowds, distract security with improvised explosive and diversionary devices, and advance decisively towards your primary target.”

The Civil Guard operation was conducted in collaboration with Europol, the FBI, and authorities from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Estonia, Romania, and Iceland. It resulted in nine arrests in Spain, including individuals from Girona, Cadiz, Almeria, and Tenerife, with two placed in pre-trial detention.

Sky Italy reported that the investigation, which began months ago, involved the seizure of computers and propaganda materials. Those arrested face charges of terrorism and criminal conspiracy.
