Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a five-year contract

Real Madrid, the renowned Spanish club, has officially announced the acquisition of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French international has inked a five-year deal with Real Madrid, bringing an end to years of speculation surrounding his potential move, particularly during the past two summers.

Despite earlier indications that he would remain at PSG following the departures of Lionel Messi and Neymar, Mbappe ultimately opted not to extend his contract for another year, paving the way for a free transfer outside France from January onwards.

Confirmation of Mbappe’s transfer to Los Blancos comes just days after Real Madrid secured their 15th Champions League trophy, triumphing 2-0 over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday evening.

As part of the agreement, Mbappe agreed to a significant reduction in his salary, with the 25-year-old set to earn 15 million euros net (£12.8 million) per season at Madrid, down from the 25 million euros net (£21.4 million) he received in Paris.

In an official statement, the club declared: “Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”

Mbappe took to Instagram on Monday evening, moments after the transfer was confirmed, expressing his delight: “A dream come true.”

With an impressive record of 44 goals for PSG last season, Mbappe has amassed a total of 256 goals in 308 matches since joining the club in 2017 from Monaco, initially on loan before completing a permanent transfer worth €180 million (£153 million) the following summer.

During his tenure at Parc des Princes, Mbappe emerged as the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, securing six Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France victories, and two Coupe de la Ligue triumphs.

In 2020, PSG reached the Champions League final, marking their closest brush with victory in the competition to date.
