International Criminal Court seeks arrest warrants against Hamas leader Sinwar and Israeli PM Netanyahu for war crimes

The International Criminal Court is looking for arrest warrants for Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the October 7 attacks on Israel and the subsequent conflict in Gaza, as per the court’s prosecutor Karim Khan. Khan mentioned that the ICC’s prosecution team is also pursuing warrants for Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, along with two other top Hamas leaders, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh.

The warrants against the Israeli politicians mark a significant move by the ICC. Netanyahu now joins other world leaders like Vladimir Putin and Moammar Gadhafi, who have faced arrest warrants from the ICC.

A panel of ICC judges will review Khan’s request for the arrest warrants. The charges against Netanyahu and Gallant include severe accusations like causing extermination and deliberately targeting civilians in conflict.

Netanyahu has criticized the decision, calling it “a political outrage.” Despite this, he expressed determination to continue until the hostages are released and Hamas is eliminated.

Khan emphasized that denying essential supplies like water to the civilian population of Gaza cannot be justified by the needs of Hamas fighters. The situation remains complex, with a high toll of casualties reported in Gaza.
