There is no point in sending ambassadors if we don?t have the funds for them to even travel to their missions - Minister of Foreign Affairs explains delay in appointment of Ambassadors
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has elucidated the reasons for the delay in appointing ambassadors to serve in foreign missions.

Addressing the ministerial briefing commemorating President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office on Tuesday, May 28, Tuggar cited a shortage of funds as the primary cause for the delay.

He also revealed that the current administration inherited a Ministry of Foreign Affairs that lacked adequate funding.

Tuggar emphasized, “We encountered a scenario where the funding for foreign affairs was inadequate. Additionally, there were vulnerabilities being exploited, such as those by entities like Binance. Sending ambassadors without sufficient travel funds for their missions serves no purpose.

To ensure the effective and prudent operation of embassies, adequate funding is imperative. Part of the challenge stems from the circumstances inherited by the new administration. President Tinubu’s priority, as you know, has been the removal of fuel subsidy.”
