Two Nigerian sisters, Aisha Mohammed, 18, and Zainab Mohammed, 17, tragically passed away while swimming at Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn, New York.
Originally from Nigeria and now residing in the Bronx, they were reported missing on Friday night, July 5, after entering the water near Stillwell Avenue and Boardwalk West. Despite efforts from witnesses and emergency responders, both sisters were recovered from the water by divers an hour later and transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Coney Island, where they were pronounced deceased.
The incident occurred during a rainstorm when most beachgoers sought shelter, while the sisters ventured into rough ocean waters. The investigation into this heartbreaking event remains ongoing.
