Wife poisons husband for not appreciating the 50th birthday party she threw for him

A woman allegedly turned a celebratory occasion into a troubling incident after feeling her husband did not appreciate the 50th birthday party she organized for him.

Michelle Peters, 47, reportedly poisoned her spouse’s Mountain Dew with Round Up weed killer because he showed ingratitude toward the event she had planned, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.

The husband contacted the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office after suspecting his wife was poisoning him. He noticed an unusual taste in his Mountain Dew and subsequently experienced symptoms such as coughing up discolored mucus, a sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea over a two-week period.

He discovered through CCTV footage that Peters allegedly tampered with the Mountain Dew bottles by mixing them with Roundup and returning them to the garage fridge. According to the affidavit, he claimed that whenever he replaced a bottle, she would contaminate it again.

Fearing for his safety, he preserved a bottle of the altered liquid and the surveillance footage as evidence “in case he died from being poisoned.”

When confronted about his illness, Peters reportedly dismissed his concerns, attributing his symptoms to COVID-19 and advised him to avoid contact with their grandchildren.

During police questioning, Peters initially claimed she mixed the substances to create a weed killer she had seen on Pinterest but later admitted she “should have just divorced” her husband.

According to the affidavit, police stated that “Michelle said she was mad at (her husband) because she had thrown him a 50th birthday party and he was not appreciative.”

Michelle Peters faces charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. She is currently held at the Laclede County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on July 2.

The husband suspects that his wife may have poisoned him either to obtain his $500,000 life insurance payout or due to suspicions of an affair.
